We have previously highlighted growing interest in frontier acreage offshore New Zealand despite the lack of proven resources outside the Taranaki Basin.The supportive regulatory environment,as well as 18 underexplored sedimentary basins,have already tempted in- ternational players such as Royal Dutch Shell,Anadarko Petroleum and OMV to New Zealand.The results of the 2013 block offer,an- nounced on December 5 2013 by energy minister Simon Bridges, included successful bids from major international companies Statoil and Woodside.These companies’arrival in New Zealand for the firsttimeemphasisesthecountry’sexcellentregulatoryenvironment and strong prospectivity.
