While soliton which maintaines a stationary pulse shape suits high-bit-rate long distance transmission, NRZ pulse which has been already used widely suits relatively low-bit-rate intermediate distance transmission. Therefore soliton/NRZ hybrid wavelength-division-multiplexed system is a desirable solution for a future bit-rate/signal-format free photonic network. In this report, we analyze the collision induced frequency shift which may limit the system performance and show the mechanism of the shift. We also discuss the system design to reduce the frequency shift.
