Mitsui Chemicals' move to spin off its styrene monomer business comes as Japan is facing excess capacity of about 1m tone-possibly 1.5m tonne by the end of this year,according to Lee Fagg of Teconon OrbiChem.Mitsui announced on 8 October that it is spinning off its styrene business to a joint-venture company,Taiyo Petrochemical Co (TPC),by 1 January 2004 (ACN 13 Sep,p6).
