A new approach to determining the optimum pitch sequence of a tire has been developed with the aimof attaining tires with improved interior noise and pass-by noise. Although several approaches havebeen proposed to improve tire noise by selecting the best sequence out of thousands of sequencesmainly based upon random number generation, they require a lot of CPU time and the results are stillnot optimum. In the new approach, a genetic algorithm is applied to obtain the optimum sequence byminimizing an objective function while satisfying the constraints.
