Effect of Top Pruning on Stem Carbohydrates Reserves and Foliar14CO2Assimilation in Mulberry Trees during Autumn

Removal of shoot tops from mulberry plants in autumn hastened the accumulation of starch in the stems even though photosynthesis in the remaining uppermost leaves was supressed. The proportion of the amount of14CO2assimilate taken into the veins and the contents of foliar carbohydrates and protein were not affected by pruning.
