Pakistan has proposed to build two new oil refineries within the next five to seven years to counter its increasing dependence on fuels imports. The proposed facilities would be located in southwestern Baluchistan province and eastern Punjab, respectively, and will have a combined annual processing capacity of about 24.0mn tonnes (equivalent to 526,000b/d. This would be more than sufficient to alleviate Pakistan's deficit in refined fuels.
