Preparing For Shale Gas

BMI View: Indonesia will soon offer working contracts for shale gas development later in 2013. As highlighted in our special report on fracking, it has the resource potential. The greater challenge is to prove the commerciality of its shale gas resources to private investors, which could be undermined by low domestic gas prices. Indonesia will offer four working contracts to develop shale gas blocks later in 2013, according to the Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry. National oil company (NOC) Pertamina will be the first to land a contract for a block in North Sumatra.
