Monsoon rains continued to cause havoc in India's Maharashtra state,where the official death toll has risen to 400.Deputy chief minister RR Patil said 83 of those killed were in the state capital,Mumbai.Meteorologists said the rains were India's heaviest for 50 years.Schools were closed and trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange was light.The armed forces were called in to take part in rescue efforts.All flights from Mumbai were suspended and land transport was in chaos.
