A HUGE wave of relief must have swept over the participants at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fujian refinery-cracker project on 8 July.Like most of the other Sino-foreign cracker joint ventures,the partners for this project -Sinopec,ExxonMobil,and Saudi Aramco -had been engaged in talks for 10 years.And there were testing times in early 2004,when there was market talk that the US major had wanted to pull out from the joint venture.The entry of the foreign partners into China's petroleum-products market had been a contentious point,according to a source close to the project.
