Canadian think tank Pembina Institute has called on oil sands producers to put forward more detailed plans on how they can reduce carbon emissions to keep pace with national net-zero goals. In a report published Tuesday,Pembina notes the"unprecedented challenge"facing the carbon-intensive oil sands sector, which must slash emissions while also dealing with forecasts of long-term declines in global demand for crude. But companies'access to technology and the ability to fully deploy strategies that are already under way could position the oil sands sector well to meet the challenge, the report says.
