ON THE EFFECTS OF PLANT EXTRACTS ON THEα-AMYLASE ACTIVITY IN RICE ENDOSPERM

Effects of ethanol extracts obtained from several plant materials onα-amylase activity in rice endosperm were examined. Promoting effect on theα-amylase activity was estimated in terms of gibberellin A3equivalence using the embryoless endosperm. Inhibiting effect was examined using intact seed. On chromatography of the extract fromPrunus, the zones showing promotion of theα-amylase activity also exhibited the activity for the elongation of the leaf sheath of rice seedling. But this was not the case with the extracts fromPharbitis, Allium and Lupin
