The Orst-ever US tax incentives for “clean” hydrogen production, housed in the massive Democratic bill signed into law Tuesday, are tied to a greenhouse gas intensity standard foreseen as posing obstacles for “blue” hydrogen projects. The tax credits, which would provide $3 per kilogram for hydrogen produced with an electrolyzer powered by clean energy, would make swift strides in eliminating the cost delta with so-called “gray” hydrogen produced through conventional steam methane reforming.
