THE NUMBER of incidents resulting in damage to underground facilities in the United States continues to decrease, the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) has reported, but the pace of decline has slowed. CGA's annual Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) report estimated 165,000 damages to facilities, a 3 percent decrease from the 170,000 estimated in 2009. Between 2008 and 2009, estimated damages to facilities declined 15 percent.
