As the F-4J(UK) Phantom climbed out of RAF Wattisham for the very last time on 22 February 1991, the crew had a plan. The pilot, Fg Off Ian 'Hagar' Hargreaves, and navigator Flt Lt Ray Jones were heading out over the North Sea where it was safely permitted to break the speed of sound. This was, after all, to be the final flight of this F-4 and they wanted it to go out with a bang — literally.
