Jamaican Ebony

Bonsai artists in Florida did not know much about this species until one hot summer day in Jupiter, FL when Allen Carver who owns and operates Jupiter Bonsai did a workshop with our teach-er, Carlos Consuegra. It was then that the love affair with this spectacular species began. Our teacher believes that this species has all the attributes of a great tree for bonsai. I came to know the species as a Jamaican ebony, Brya ebenus, a.k.a. Jamaican Raintree and West Indies Ebony. From that day on my journey began with this tree and I've never looked back. I was fortunate enough that the bonsai gods were shining down on me and I found a forty plus year old subject to create into one of my center pieces for my bonsai garden. I'm always striving to create different styles; literati, shohin, slant, semi-cascade, twin trunk and informal, etc. Enclosed you will find general information through my trials and tribulations on how they respond to growth, fertilization, potting, trimming, pests, and designing.
