Six bonsai enthusiasts living in different parts of the country with differ- ing interests and material availability were asked to respond to a series of questions concerning how they select bonsai material for themselves and provide some pictures illustrating their approach to material selection. In this issue, three of the enthusiasts are featured with the remaining highlighted in the upcoming fall issue. The following are their unique perspectives:Dave Bogan - Southern Indiana1. What is most important when you select material for bonsai? With a bonsai nursery business, Dave may think differently than someone who is raising trees for their own enjoyment. He buys trees in two different categories - material that needs work, hasa lot of potential, and will take a few years to develop; and finished treesfrom collections, especially trees that have a history from a known master or unique to their style and species.
