RESIDENTIAL AND commercial buildings in the United States consume approximately 58 percent of the energy used in the American economy, excluding transportation uses, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Small wonder, then, that in today's energy-conscious environment great effort is under way to reduce energy consumption in this area.
