Polarization interleave multiplexing is an effective method to reduce the cross-talk between the neighboring channels in dense WDM systems. In this paper, we have investigated the subjects when we apply this method to the multi-Terabit/s transmission systems. We report the developments of optical devices indispensable for this method, and required characteristics for the transmission line based on our 3.2 Tb/s (160×20 Gb/s)-1,500km transmission experiment.
