Gas Rules State confirms the growing role of natural gas in transportation and more

SACRAMENTO—Natural gas in California will be used more for transportation but less for electric generation over the next 10 years, according to a report from the California Energy Commission. That prediction was part of the Integrated Energy Policy Report, which makes recommendations on ways to reduce greenhouse gases below 1990 levels by 40 percent by 2030. The report forecasts a 9.3 percent increase over 2013 levels in the use of natural gas by 2024, mostly in the transportation, commercial and residential sectors. The report also suggests prices are expected to increase by 2.6 percent to 6.2 percent a year.
