We all know that diapers are big business around the world, which also presents a large opportunity in the march towards biodegradability. The IFJ spoke with representatives from Binder and Avgol to learn more about their latest concept that will help non-woven diapers with an environmentally friendly option to help the world's waste issue. Here are their thoughts. IFJ: What industry or consumer problem were you hoping to resolve when you began your research and development? Due to the fact that a baby uses around 5,000 diapers before being potty-trained, which results in about one metric ton of waste -there is a challenge of reducing the prevalence such waste has on the environment which we must take on and address for the good of future generations. Issues of dealing with complex, mixed wastes are not readily resolved and growing prevalence of uncon- trolled wastes in emerging and developing countries is further compounding the problem.
