The chromosomal histone and non-histone proteins from embryo induced carrot cell cultures were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and compared with those from non-induced cultures. 16 protein bands were detected in the non-histone proteins of non-induced control cultures and their patterns remained stable throughout the culture period.Generally, similar protein patterns were found in the non-histone proteins of induced cultures. However, limited but distinct differences were observed. A group of proteins of low molecular weight was observed to be missing in samples shortly after the induction of embryogenesis. In contrast, no changes were detected in histones after the induction of embryogenesis.
