I.B.Bopanna grows coffee and black pepper at Sampigehalla & Athikaad Estates in Coorg and has recently founded Chombuka Coorg Coffee Company to market his coffees. Bopanna started his career in tea and moved to coffee as Senior Manager in the International Business Division ofITC Ltd where he was head of coffee exports at the time ESQ was introduced. He then moved to the Coco Cola Company, first in India launching Georgia Coffee in fresh brewed vending format. He was then promoted and moved to the Global Marketing Team in 2005 as Senior Global Director for coffee, first based in Singapore and then to the head office in Atlanta, USA leading the coffee business across 25 countries. He relocated back to India in 2019 to become a full-time coffee farmer.
