A new site for Cloviger testoceus Preyssler (Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) in East Sussex (VC 14) with a review of modern and historical records

On 27 March 2021 a single specimen of the scarce myrmecophilous beetle, Claviger testaceus Preyssler, was collected from within a Lasius alienus (Foerster) colony on Lullington Heath NNR, East Sussex. Claviger testaceus is an obligate social parasite of ants, particularly Lasius flavus (Fabricius), where worker ants will feed, clean and protect individual beetles as if they were their own (Donisthorpe, 1927).
