ON FEBRUARY 23, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense announced that it had signed a letter of intent with the China National Aero-Technology Import Export Corporation to acquire 12 AVIC Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry L-15 Falcon advanced jet trainers, with an option for another 36 examples. Although officials noted the deal was part of a wider drive by the nation to "diversify its portfolio of defence equipment," the value of the aircraft and their delivery timeline were not disclosed at the time of going to print.
