At a time when many civilian air displays have gradually if perceptibly cut back, Old Buckenham bucks the trend. This was the Norfolk venue's biggest line-up yet, bringing with it the feeling of a type of event that's all but disappeared. Time was when even most small, local displays would include some big-ticket RAF participation; now those days are largely gone, but here we had both the solo Typhoon and the Falcons parachutists. Great, enduring entertainers such as the Tiger Club's Turbulent Team and CAP 10, the latter courtesy of the ever-improving Christophe Simon, were present and correct. And there was a dash of imagination, not least in a contrasting high-winged 'STOL duo' of the Aircraft Restoration Company's Beaver, beautifully presented by John Romain, alongside Tony Richards in a Super Decathlon from locally based type distributor Aerial Advantage.
