Heuristics in the Delivery Room

(Abstracted from Science 2021;374:324–329) Studying the delivery setting provides a glimpse into physician's decision-making, whereas cognitive and time pressures create a uniquely high-stakes scenario. In such settings, individuals may be more likely to rely on heuristics to aid complex decision-making including the decision to suggest a vaginal or cesarean delivery.
