It is proposed to measure the transmission and fluorescence spectra of technical oils by the method of side illumination of a quartz tube filled with the oil being investigated. This method makes it possible to broaden the range of values of the radiation-damping coefficients that can be determined by using a laser beam that scans along the tube, causing the oil to fluoresce. The fluorescence and transmission spectra of new (unused), oxidized, and contaminated technical oils are investigated. An example is given of choosing a diagnostic parameter for objectively estimating the quality change of the transformer oil. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America.
