TCLEE Volunteer Assesses Lifeline Performance In China and Italy

AS PART OF ITS Celebrate Engineer Volunteerism project in the months leading up to Engineers Week 2010, which will be February 14-20, ASCE is spotlighting its Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering (TCLEE). Also singled out is one of that body's volunteers, Alex Tang, P.E., F.ASCE, the president of L&T Consultants, of Mis-sissauga, Ontario, whose volunteer efforts with the council span nearly three decades. "Lifelines are the systems and facilities that provide services vital to the function of an industrialized society and are important to the emergency response and recovery after a natural disaster," states the TCLEE's Web site, www.asce.org/instfound/techcomm_tclee.cfm. As a member of the TCLEE, Tang has organized training programs and workshops and has studied lifelines in the wake of major earthquakes around the world.
