摘要

Molecular electronics based on the function of single molecules will construct the future information and communication electronics system. One of these molecular electronic device using function of single molecules is the single electron tunneling (SET) device which have been successfully prepared. Using an organic molecule as a coulomb island of SET device, it is possible to use a potential ability of the single molecules. Single molecules have a small size and uniform structure. And their size and structure can be designed by chemical synthesis. These are great advantages from the viewpoint of the small capacitance of the Coulomb islands and their reproducibility. Dye molecules have a sensitive response to the light stimulation. It is possible to add SET characteristics to the new electrical and optical characteristics of the dye molecules. From these viewpoints, recently, some researcher made molecular SET junction using organic molecules and mono-molecule as a coulomb island and investigated the electrical single electron tunneling properties.
