Sooner or later (and usually sooner) on any sizeable construction project, a crawler excavator (or two) is going to be required. Whether for land excavation and preparation ahead of construction work, or for moving heavy materials around the site during the construction phase, these workhorses have always been seen as the safest and quickest option. Recent innovations have seen even the largest construction-oriented machines more fleet of foot - or track - more manoeuvrable and more efficient. In truth, numbers of large excavators operating in Europe are declining, but when a large machine is required, the outlay is large and the consequences for making the wrong choice can be significant in terms of the bottom line.
