Construction Management Course Connects Students With Saudi Arabia

THE CIVIL ENGINEERING program at Merrimack College has taken a unique approach to teaching students about construction management. In lieu of one instructor who invites guest speakers and takes the students on field trips; two instructors are in action: one in the classroom and one in Saudi Arabia. David Westerling, Ph.D., F.ASCE, an associate professor at the college, teaches seven seniors in the classroom the fundamentals of construction management, and Paul Zarba " is an adjunct professor and a construction manager with Al-Latifia Trading & Contracting Company, which is based in Riyadh (Ar Riyad), Saudi Arabia. The firm is developing a multibillion-dollar complex in that country, and Zarba uses examples from his project in delivering lectures to the students over the Internet.
