The US EPA has responded to a 2017 petition filed by US agricultural advocacy group Center for Food Safety (CFS), urging the former to amend the country’s pesticide regulations in favour of additional toxicity testing of such products, as well as tank mixtures, prior to their registration. In its petition, the CFS had accused the pesticide watchdog of violating the US Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) as its regulatory framework “only requires toxicological data on a pesticide’s active ingredients in isolation”. It had observed that the practice fouls the mandate of the nation’s Congress, which states that the “data should reflect a pesticide’s use in its entirety”.
