摘要

The design of any device interacting with the human biological system involves a number of interrelated aspects which have to be considered, evaluated and optimized before getting to the final product. These aspects are not only relevant to the technological process which has to comply with good manufacturing practice, mere good engineering or safety of the device but, also, include the necessity of minimizing any trauma to the biological system. The design of a total liquid ventilation (TLV] device is also subject to this statement The biomedical engineer is the one who merges the competencies relevant to engineering and biological application, analyzing the design from a technical point of view as well as going deeply into the interaction between the device and the biological structures. Therefore, the development of a TLV device should not just include skilled mechanical or electronic engineers (experts with machine, control apparatuses, or actuation software) but, also, biomedical engineers, because the biological issues could be underestimated.
