摘要

The current trend of using lightweight materials and alloys andcomposite materials in rail vehicle construction has been accompaniedby an intensive application of cryogenics. Adhesive bonding issuperior to other material-based joining methods; especially forthermosetting plastics, ceramics and glass as well as forcombinations of different metallic and non-metallic materials. Thepaper covers various adhesives, the requirements for furnacepreparation, the materials and designs of the components to be joinedalong with the advantages and disadvantages of adhesive bonding. Thecurrent and future applications of adhesive bonding are dealt with aswell, and mention is made of experience regarding the long-termstrength and testing of adhesive joints.
