Arkansas may only have a small number of military aviation bases, but they play an important role. With two set to be expanded ahead of new missions, Tom Kaminski finds out more. THE ARKANSAS TERRITORY was admitted to the union as the 25th state on June 15, 1836. Situated in the South Central area of the US, Arkansas has become known as the 'Natural State; as it is home to abundant wildlife, including the 'razorback' - a type of feral pig recognized for its tenacious, wild fighting ability. It is also the name used by the University of Arkansas sports teams. References to the Razorbacks or the team logo can be found throughout the aviation units located in the state, which also has a long history of flight training.
