Snake River Spillway Named Winner of Grand Conceptor Award

A removable 1,000-ton steel spillway in Washington State designed so that hydroelectric plants can coexist with migrating salmon has been named the nation's preeminent engineering achievement in 2002 by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The Snake River Removable Spillway Weir, designed by Jacobs Civil, Inc., of Bellevue, Washington, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, received the ACEC's Grand Conceptor Award at the organization's annual awards dinner, which was held on March 18 in Washington, D.C. It was chosen over 23 other projects, 3 of which involved responses to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
