A leap in Helmerich & Payne’s expected US land oil and gas rig count during the last three months of the year should result in the global land driller adding as many domestic rigs in that period as it has through the previous nine months of the year, its top executive said Nov. 18. While its rig “churn” among US land upstream customers was modest in from July to September – the company’s fiscal fourth quarter – the 5% incremental domestic rig count jump in the period should improve in the final three months of 2021 as operators reset annual budgets, company CEO John Lindsay said during a quarterly earnings conference call.
