AS A result of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, various former Afghan Air Force helicopters have been shipped out to the US and placed in storage with the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. In response to a query from Combat Aircraft Journal, a public affairs spokesperson for the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) stated on December 9 that: "The Defense Security Cooperation Management Office-Afghanistan is retrograding US and multinational aircraft from US and overseas maintenance support facilities to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. To date, the 309th AMARG has received 17 MD-530s and seven Mi-17s."
