On publication policy, combination therapy, and the European League Against Rheumatism recommendations for the management of rheumatoid arthritis: comment on the article by Graudal et al.

Drs. Graudal and Jiirgens have recently published a meta-analysis of the effects of various treatments on radio-graphic progression in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (1). Their report ends with an addendum in which they criticize the recently published European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) RA management recommendations (2) because these do not include a recommendation to use combinations of synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) prior to initiation of treatment with biologic agents.
