To understand the combustion phenomena is essential for improving of exhaust emissions in dieselengines. In last thirty years, visualization techniques have been developed by many researchers andregarded as effective analyzing methods. There are many visualization techniques in dieselcombustion analysis, so this paper describes classifications of analyzing methods based onvisualization techniques, types of visualized engines and high-speed recording media. The paper alsodescribes the visualization result of the conventional and pilot injection as an example. Thevisualization techniques used for this example are the shadow-graph recorded with 16 mm film usinghigh speed camera and flame temperature distribution analyzed with a two-color method using usingan image converter camera.
