Proven technology and sufficient finance are in place for the energy transition to renewables, but the industry needs firmer policy frameworks from governments to provide certainty and hasten the pace of decarbonisation. Clear policy is particularly important for emerging transition technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen, delegates heard at the International Energy Week conference in London. The energy transition industry needs “the longer-term vision, the ambitions from a policy perspective”, UK decarbonisation firm Storegga chief financial officer Michael Alsford said.
