All optical switching is of considerable concern, since it enables constructing a large capacity network with reduced cost and offering protocol-free and bit-rate-free transmission. In this paper, we investigate three all optical architectures for backbone networks: wavelength routing network, slotted wavelength routing network, and optical burst switching network. For the first two methods, we propose an optical path accommodation algorithm which minimizes the total fiber length. The desired architecture is clarified through numerical evaluation.
