摘要

A study of a natural population of this endangered tree peony at Jishan, Shanxi Province, in 1996-97 revealed poor seed set (2.1 seeds/carpel) despite the production of a great quantity of pollen of high (36-75%) viability. Stigmas became receptivea day after flower opening and remained so for several days. Pollen germination on wet stigmas was high with both self and cross pollen, although self pollination produced no seeds, indicating that P. jishanensis is self incompatible. The self incompatibility system was activated when pollen tubes reached the ovary wall.
