This article first appeared in the December 1951 issue of The Observer and gives an interesting account of the personalities of early Locomotive Engineers. Mr Boult retired from Railways in 1935 as Chief Clerk in the Locomotive Engineer's office at Auckland. He passed away in 1968, aged 84.Just a very shorttime before I joined the Railways Department in September 1900, a substantial part of the Locomotive Superintendent's staff, including the Superintendent himself, had left New Zealand in a body to join the staff of the Western Australian Government Railways.
