This paper discusses the spectral and amplitude-time characteristics of the radiation of homoand heteronuclear inert-gas molecules when they are excited by a volume discharge induced by a beam of avalanche electrons. It is shown that spontaneous-emission sources with high pulse power can be created by using an excitation power of 100 MW/cm 3 or more.
