The genotype constitution of newly developed chromosome segment lines (CSSLs) of rice derived from a cross between Koshihikari and the indica cultivar Nona Bokra. Chromosomal regions affecting heading date were determined by quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection. Significant differences in number of days to heading (DTH) were detected between 18 CSSLs and Koshihikari, and no CSSLs exhibited earlier heading relative to Koshihikari. Twelve QTLS for heading date were identified on chromosomes 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12. Nona Bokra alleles at all the QTLs increased the DTH value. The substituted segments of the 18 CSSLs encompassed 10 of these QTLs, except for those on chromosomes 4 and 11.
