The truck driver shortage is expected to persist through2022, after reaching a record high of more than 80,000commercial drivers in 2021, according to a new report fromthe American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI).The shortage is especially acute for long-haul truckers,but as previously reported, shortages of petroleum tankerdrivers also have led to fuel outages in some areas of the U.S.in the recent past.
