Uniform incorporation of lime into wastewater residuals is critical for biosolids lime-stabilization processes. Lime stabilization is a commonly used treatment method for producing biosolids suitable for land application that meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements for pathogen reduction and vector attraction reduction. The high pH environment achieved from the hydration of lime arrests biological activity, prevents the degradation of odor precursors (proteins), and inhibits the degassing of existing odorants.
