The refractive index variation arises in the interaction by electrooptic effect and acoustooptic effect, when the SAW is excited in optical waveguide, and it is possible to carry out a TE-TM mode conversion. From this fact, it is applied to light tunableness filter; etc.. In this study, the SAW power in the substrate was utilized effectively by guiding wave for the light in the substrate, and the element which efficiently polarized the light was proposed. Theoretical analysis and polarized light experiment of the Ta{sub}2O{sub}5/LNbO{sub}3 substrate were carried out. Then, it was examined in order to enable the high-efficient polarized light. Polarized light efficiency of about 35% has been obtained. In the future, the substrate is thinned, and the efficiency will be raised.
