Theft rings using advanced forms of pulser tampering are stealing 1,000-8,000 gal at a time from gas stations, law enforcement authorities in variousparts of the country have told OPIS.The American Petroleum Institute says the typical gas station has storagecapacity of 30,000-40,000 gal, which means the thefts can translate intolosses of as much as a fourth of inventory. With fuel over $4 per gallon, lossescan easily run into five figures.
